Tuition Remission | Financing a JCU Education

John Carroll offers a tuition benefit to dependents of eligible employees. The University also participates in various tuition exchange programs for families that work in higher education across the country. All of our programs are limited to dependent children of eligible employees if the student meets admission standards and is accepted for admission.

John Carroll participates in three tuition exchange programs that offer full or partial tuition remission for selected, accepted incoming new students.

Priority consideration for all of our tuition exchange programs is given to:

Students applying for first-year admission directly out of high school.
Students applying for admission by our Early Action Deadline of November 1.
Students whose home institution (where the parent is employed) has submitted the necessary certification of eligibility on their behalf by December 1.

Each year we receive more interest from students to participate in our tuition exchange programs than spaces available. Decisions and notification of those students granted tuition remission will typically be made and released in late January each year. Additionally, JCU maintains a waitlist for students admitted to the university but not originally awarded a position in one of these programs. Notification of those on the waitlist will also be released at that time.

There is a committee that evaluates all the eligible candidates for each program and selects the recipients. A multitude of factors is considered under a very holistic review.

While strong priority for tuition exchange grants is given to new, incoming first-year students each year, eligible transfer students or currently enrolled students who did not initially receive a grant would be considered on a space-available basis only. Receiving a grant as one of these students is typically rare, as our allotted spots each year are filled by incoming first-year students.

FACHEX

Dependent children whose parents are employed at U.S. Jesuit universities (26 of the 27, the exception being Georgetown) may be eligible to participate in the program. In principle, students who are eligible for faculty/staff tuition remission at their home institution would be eligible to be considered for a spot in JCU’s FACHEX program. Eligible students should contact the FACHEX liaison at their home institution who will fill out an electronic form on the FACHEX website that certifies eligibility for the program. We typically award 4-5 grants each year through FACHEX. The award value covers full tuition; all fees and room/board are NOT covered.

Tuition Exchange Program (TEP)

TEP manages tuition exchange for a large number of participating institutions. Eligible students should contact the TEP liaison at their home institution who will fill out an electronic form on the TEP website that certifies eligibility for the program. We typically award 10 grants each year through TEP. The award value is the yearly minimum set rate by TEP.

Council Of Independent Colleges (CIC-TEP)

The CIC Tuition Exchange Program (CIC-TEP) is a network of CIC colleges and universities willing to accept, tuition-free, students from families of full-time employees of other CIC-TEP institutions. Each participating institution in the network agrees to import a limited number of students on the same admission basis as they accept all other students, without regard to the number of students it exports. Eligible students should contact the CIC-TEP liaison at their home institution who will fill out an electronic form on the CIC-TEP website that certifies eligibility for the program. We typically award 3 grants each year through CIC-TEP. The award value covers full tuition; all fees and room/board are NOT covered.

JCU Tuition Benefits

Based upon employee status and date of hire, JCU employees are eligible for a reduction in their tuition charges for themselves, their spouses, and/or their dependent children to enroll and take courses at John Carroll University.
